The Astell&Kern PD5 builds on the success of the A&norma SR35 and takes the portable music player to a new level. Its compact aluminium design combines Astell&Kern’s familiar styling with a completely redesigned audio architecture, developed for music enthusiasts who expect the same level of refinement and control on the move as they would from a high-quality desktop system. With both a 3.5 mm headphone output and a powerful 4.4 mm balanced connection, the PD5 is suitable for a wide range of in-ear monitors and headphones.
At the heart of the PD5 are no fewer than eight Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC chips. Thanks to the new Dual Drive Mode, users can choose between Quad DAC operation for lower power consumption and an impressive playback time of up to around 28 hours, or Octa DAC mode, which activates all eight DACs for maximum audio performance. In Octa DAC mode, the balanced 4.4 mm output delivers up to 8 Vrms. Support for files up to 32-bit/384 kHz and native DSD256, combined with dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3 and Android, makes the PD5 an exceptionally versatile high-end music player for both local music libraries and streaming services.
