The Astell & Kern PD5 is a premium digital audio player designed for demanding music enthusiasts who do not want to compromise on sound quality while on the move. As the successor to the acclaimed SR35, the PD5 introduces a completely revised DAC architecture, extended battery life, Android, modern wireless connectivity and Astell & Kern's new EnviroTune technology.
At the heart of the PD5 are no fewer than eight Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC chips. Astell & Kern allows users to switch between Quad-DAC and Octa-DAC operation depending on their listening requirements.
Quad-DAC mode focuses on efficiency and extended battery life, while Octa-DAC mode activates all eight converters to make full use of the player's advanced digital audio architecture.
The PD5 introduces EnviroTune, a technology that analyses ambient noise and optimises playback according to the surrounding listening conditions.
This makes the PD5 particularly versatile when moving between quiet rooms, offices, public transport and other environments where background noise can vary considerably.
The Astell & Kern PD5 supports high-resolution PCM playback up to 32-bit/384 kHz as well as native DSD256, making it an excellent platform for demanding high-resolution music collections.
An octa-core processor combined with Android provides a responsive platform for local playback and online music streaming. Dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3 provide extensive wireless connectivity.
High-quality Bluetooth codecs including aptX HD, LDAC and LHDC are supported for compatible wireless headphones and audio equipment.
In Quad-DAC mode the PD5 provides a claimed battery life of up to 28 hours, making it a true all-day portable music player. USB Power Delivery 3.0 charging reduces charging time to approximately 2.5 hours.
