The Astell&Kern PD20 represents a new direction in portable high-resolution digital audio players. Rather than evolving from a previous model, it has been designed as an entirely new platform built around the idea of personal sound shaping. Created for demanding listeners who want more than conventional playback, the PD20 integrates a built-in hearing test that analyzes each ear independently. Developed in collaboration with Audiodo, the Personal Sound system works with dedicated earphones to conduct an accurate hearing assessment. The Sound Master Wheel provides 160-step EQ adjustment from –8.0 dB to +8.0 dB across bass, midrange and treble bands, enabling fine-tuning without interrupting playback. The Triple AMP architecture offers real-time switching between Class A, Class AB and Hybrid modes, complemented by three selectable current levels for optimal pairing with both sensitive IEMs and higher-impedance headphones. A Quad-DAC configuration based on ESS ES9027PRO chips, combined with ESA and Advanced DAR processing, supports refined signal alignment and detailed upsampling.

With 256GB of internal storage and microSD expansion up to 2TB, the PD20 adapts easily to large music libraries. Dual-band Wi-Fi, DLNA, USB digital audio output and USB DAC capability enhance system integration. Bluetooth support including aptX HD, LDAC and BT Sink broadens wireless functionality.
