Dedicated MM cartridge for 78 RPM shellac records, with a 65 µm spherical stylus, 4 mV mono output and replaceable Stylus 78 for correct tracing of wide historic grooves. Read more.
The Ortofon OM 78 is a dedicated Moving Magnet cartridge for playing wide-groove 78 RPM shellac records. Its 65 µm spherical stylus traces these historic grooves more accurately than a conventional microgroove stylus. With a 4 mV lateral mono output, the cartridge is suitable for standard MM phono inputs and provides stable, clear reproduction of historic music and spoken-word recordings.

Align the cartridge carefully and preferably set the tracking force to 2.0 g. Use the OM 78 exclusively for wide-groove 78 RPM records. The wide 65 µm stylus is not suitable for conventional 33⅓ or 45 RPM microgroove records. A suitable microgroove stylus must be used for these records.
