The Ortofon OM 5E is a lightweight MM cartridge for music lovers seeking an affordable and dependable route to clear, balanced vinyl playback. Its elliptical Stylus 5E tracks the record groove accurately and helps reduce distortion. With the removable weight plate fitted, the cartridge weighs 5 grams; for suitable low-mass tonearms, it can be reduced to just 2.5 grams. The standard 1/2-inch mounting and 4 mV output provide broad compatibility with conventional MM phono inputs.

Set the tracking force to 1.8 grams and align the cartridge carefully to ensure accurate tracking and minimal distortion. Leave the weight plate fitted when using a standard tonearm and remove it only for a suitable low-mass tonearm. Connect the OM 5E to an MM phono input with a 47 kΩ load and a recommended capacitance of 200 to 500 pF.
