Analogue audio conversion is handled by an ESS ES9038Q2M SABRE DAC. The RCA line output supplies up to 2.1V RMS and has a signal-to-noise ratio of 121dB. This allows the WiiM Ultra to be connected directly to an integrated amplifier, preamplifier or pair of active speakers.
The WiiM Ultra supports music playback and digital audio at resolutions up to 24-bit/192kHz. This includes its optical, coaxial and USB audio outputs. Gapless playback is also supported, allowing live albums and classical recordings to play without audible pauses between tracks.
A clear 3.5-inch colour touchscreen is located on the front panel. It displays album artwork, playback information, the selected input and a range of control functions. The rotary control can be used to adjust volume and pause or resume playback.

WiiM multiroom allows the Ultra to be grouped with other compatible WiiM products. It can also be integrated into compatible Google Home and Amazon Alexa multiroom systems. The WiiM Ultra does not support AirPlay or AirPlay 2.
HDMI ARC allows the WiiM Ultra to be connected directly to a compatible television. Audio from films, television programmes and games can then be reproduced through a stereo system or active speakers. The HDMI ARC input supports stereo PCM and Dolby Digital, but does not support DTS.
A dedicated subwoofer output makes it easy to add an active subwoofer. The associated settings can be adjusted through the WiiM Home app, allowing the subwoofer to be matched more closely to the main speakers and listening room.
The built-in phono preamplifier allows a turntable without its own phono stage to be connected directly to the WiiM Ultra. Both MM and MC cartridges are supported, with gain settings of 41dB and 59dB respectively.
The analogue phono signal is converted internally at up to 24-bit/192kHz. This allows the turntable to be heard through the connected hi-fi system and, when required, distributed to compatible WiiM devices within a multiroom group.

Equaliser settings can be stored separately for each input. This makes it possible to use different settings for streaming, television, a turntable and the optical input.
