Carl Perkins - Dance Album of Carl Perkins [Mono] is presented on this premium Hybrid-SACD from Intervention Records. Part of the Sun Records Hi-Fi Series, this mono edition was mastered direct-to-DSD from carefully selected analogue master tapes and adds five bonus tracks to the original album programme.

Featuring classics including Blue Suede Shoes, Honey Don't, Matchbox, Boppin' the Blues and Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby, Dance Album of Carl Perkins is a landmark from the formative years of rock 'n' roll and rockabilly. This Intervention Records edition is aimed at listeners who want to hear these historic mono recordings in a carefully prepared digital release.

A landmark Carl Perkins rockabilly album

Carl Perkins played a central role in the development of rockabilly and early rock 'n' roll. His blend of country, rhythm and blues and distinctive guitar playing became an important influence on generations of musicians who followed.

Dance Album of Carl Perkins brings together many of his best-known Sun Records recordings. It includes Perkins-penned classics such as Blue Suede Shoes, Honey Don't, Matchbox and Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby alongside interpretations of Only You and Wrong Yo Yo.

Mastered direct-to-DSD from carefully selected analogue tapes

For this release, Intervention Records worked closely with Sun Records and the archive team at Iron Mountain. As the original single masters had been compiled onto various 1/4-inch tape sets over the decades, the available sources were carefully auditioned to identify the best available tape for each individual song.

A newly compiled set of A/B reels was then created. The original album programme was mastered by Kevin Gray at CoHEARent Audio and transferred direct-to-DSD. For the five additional CD/SACD tracks, Iron Mountain created DSD transfers directly from the analogue master tapes. Gus Skinas at the Super Audio Center prepared the DSD files and mastered the bonus tracks in the DSD domain using Kevin Gray's mastering notes as a guide.

Authentic mono presentation

This edition is presented in mono, preserving the original character of these historic Sun Records recordings rather than introducing artificial stereo separation. The format keeps the focus on Perkins' vocal, guitar work and the direct, energetic sound of the rhythm section.

What is a Hybrid-SACD?

A Hybrid-SACD contains two separate data layers on a single disc. Its standard CD layer can be played on virtually any conventional CD player. A second high-resolution DSD SACD layer can be accessed with an SACD player or compatible universal disc player.

This means you can enjoy the disc on a standard CD player while retaining the option to access the high-resolution DSD programme with compatible SACD equipment. This particular Carl Perkins release is a mono Hybrid-SACD.
