Writing and producing countless classics for artists such as Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Otis Rush and Koko Taylor since the early 1950s, Willie Dixon was one of the studio kingpins of Chicago blues. But he also took to the stage to play bass, perform live and sing his own songs. When he released Willie's Blues, his first album as a leader, in 1959, he was working with pianist Memphis Slim. The duo is accompanied by New York jazz musicians including tenor saxophonist Hal Ashby, guitarist Wally Richardson and drummer Gus Johnson.
Kevin Gray remastered the analogue tapes for Analogue Productions at his Cohearent audio studios.
