Oliver Nelson is best known as an arranger and bandleader. When he came to prominence with a series of recordings for the Prestige label, he was celebrated as a leader of small ensembles and a composer who refreshed musical traditions while looking to the future. "Screamin' the Blues" is excellent proof of this: a stirring, funky-modern set interpreted by a virtuoso and visionary sextet. It features saxophonist Eric Dolphy as well as Richard Williams, Richard Wyands, George Duvivier and Roy Haynes. Recorded by Rudy van Gelder and remastered for Analogue Productions by Kevin Gray. Includes a four-page booklet with liner notes by Nat Hentoff.
