“Women And Children First” is the third studio album by the US rock band Van Halen, released on March 26, 1980 by Warner Bros. Records – and the first to consist entirely of self-written songs. The band, consisting of brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen, David Lee Roth and Michael Anthony, recorded a large part of the album live in the studio – within two and a half weeks and with little overdubbing. The quartet confirmed their status as America's leading rock band with “Women And Children First” – the harder sound was extremely well received by the press and the audience: In the US, the album reached number 6 on the Billboard charts, and in the UK and Germany it reached the top 20. With almost seven million units sold, “Women And Children First” is one of the mega-sellers in the Van Halen discography!
After the album release, Van Halen went on tour. David Fricke of Rolling Stone Magazine, who described the songs on “Women And Children First” as “artworks with high volume”, and the record company were curious to see how the new, somewhat more serious approach of the “party metal band” would be received live: It didn't take long for it to become clear that the “Invasion” tour would be even more successful than the tours for the previous albums – Van Halen broke all records live!
Mobile Fidelity's numbered Hybrid-SACD was created from the master tapes and presents this Grammy-winning milestone from 1979 in an audiophile sound that impresses with rich colors and is bursting with energy, detail and dynamics! “Women And Children First” now has more of a live feel than ever thanks to the MFSL treatment – turn the volume knob all the way up! The hybrid SACD is housed in a mini-LP-style package – including the iconic album cover, of course.
