Experience The Who – Who's Next as an exclusive numbered UHQR release from Analogue Productions. This single LP is pressed on 200-gram Clarity Vinyl, plays at 33⅓ RPM and is limited worldwide to only 7,500 copies.
Who's Next was originally released in 1971 as the fifth studio album by The Who. Much of its material was initially written for Pete Townshend's ambitious Lifehouse project. Although that concept was not completed in its original form, it produced some of the most recognisable recordings in rock history.
The album opens with the instantly recognisable synthesiser sequence of “Baba O'Riley” and also contains classics such as “Bargain”, “Behind Blue Eyes” and “Won't Get Fooled Again”. Roger Daltrey's powerful vocals, Pete Townshend's guitar playing, John Entwistle's inventive bass lines and Keith Moon's explosive drumming make Who's Next an essential album for classic-rock enthusiasts.
For this Ultra High Quality Record edition, the album was mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering from the original analogue master tapes. It was subsequently pressed on 200-gram Clarity Vinyl at Quality Record Pressings, commonly known as QRP.
Clarity Vinyl is manufactured without the traditional black carbon colouring used in conventional vinyl. The specialised formulation is designed to provide a quiet background, high transparency and accurate reproduction of subtle musical detail.
The LP is presented in a heavyweight Stoughton Printing Old Style tip-on gatefold jacket with a scuff-resistant matte finish. The record, jacket and supporting materials are housed inside a deluxe textured clamshell box.
Many audiophile records are pressed on 180-gram vinyl. This is considerably heavier and more rigid than conventional records weighing approximately 120 to 140 grams. A heavier record will generally sit more securely on the turntable and, when manufactured carefully, can be less susceptible to warping.
This UHQR edition goes one step further by using 200-gram Clarity Vinyl. Weight alone, however, does not guarantee better sound. The mastering, vinyl formulation, pressing plates and quality of the pressing process are at least as important. This release combines all of these elements in one premium audiophile production.
