Spooky. Beguiling. These are the words critics have used to describe the melodic, psychedelic sound of The Doors. Many of the songs on 'Strange Days' were written around the same time as the tracks for the band's debut album. A mixture of oriental music, classical and pop that produced hits such as 'Love Me Two Times' and 'People Are Strange'. Rolling Stone magazine wrote of the album that it had the power and energy of the first LP, but was more subtle, complex and therefore more enduring.
The SACD has been remastered from the original analogue tapes by Doug Sax, assisted by Bruce Botnick, the Doors' producer and engineer. The original masters were compiled on a tape machine with a tube input stage, and a machine with a tube output stage was also used to play back the tapes to be remastered. The surround sound is based on the 96k/24bit files that Botnick mixed and mastered from the original analogue masters for the PERCEPTION audio DVD release. The SACDs were resampled to DSD (without filters) using a Weiss Saracon converter. Finally, Gus Skinas of the Super Audio Centre handled the pre-production.
