After two albums with the Steve Miller Band, Boz Scaggs decided to pursue a solo career. Jann Wenner, a good friend and publisher of the Rolling Stone magazine, helped him get signed to Atlantic Records. The label had him set up a studio in Muscle Shoals, where he recorded his debut album with a legendary group of studio musicians who had previously worked with Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett and many other southern soul legends. Among them was guitarist Duane Allman, who had a significant influence on the recording sessions and helped make Boz Scaggs' self-titled album an iconic work. “Boz Scaggs” marks a turning point in the American's musical direction, incorporating soul and R&B elements and demonstrating the musician's versatility.

The album, finally released in 1969, was loved by critics but initially failed to find a wider audience. Despite profound and soulful songs like “I'm Easy” and “I'll Be Long Gone”, it was not conceived as a pure blue-eyed soul record, and the stylistic palette, which also included country and blues elements, seemed to overwhelm listeners. It was only after Scaggs' songs were frequently played on the radio that commercial success began to materialize. “Loan Me A Dime” is now considered a blues rock classic.

For the “Atlantic 75 Series”, Analogue Productions is now releasing the definitive deluxe version of “Boz Scaggs”: manufactured by Quality Record Pressings as a double LP and in 180-gram vinyl format, cut at 45 RPM and featuring a tip-on old style gatefold double pocket jacket with textured stock by Stoughton Printing. This audiophile reissue pays tribute to a timeless album that has influenced and inspired subsequent generations of musicians.
