The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out [One Step] is a premium audiophile reissue of one of the most influential jazz albums ever recorded. AudioNautes presents this legendary album as a limited and individually numbered double LP, pressed on 180g vinyl and cut at 45 RPM.
This special edition, catalogue number AN-2610, is limited to only 1,500 copies. Both records are pressed at Optimal Media and presented in a deluxe box including a four-page booklet. The remastering is based on an older backup copy of the original stereo master tape.
Originally released in 1959, Time Out introduced adventurous and unusual time signatures to a remarkably broad jazz audience. Dave Brubeck on piano, Paul Desmond on alto saxophone, Eugene Wright on double bass and Joe Morello on drums formed one of the most celebrated quartets in jazz history.
The album's best-known composition is undoubtedly Take Five, written by Paul Desmond and instantly recognisable by its distinctive 5/4 time signature. Blue Rondo à la Turk, Strange Meadow Lark and Three to Get Ready are among the album's other enduring highlights.
The records in this edition are pressed on 180g vinyl. The additional weight provides a solid and stable physical format, while well-manufactured heavyweight records are generally less susceptible to deformation than very thin vinyl. Vinyl weight by itself does not guarantee better sound, however: mastering, cutting and pressing quality remain essential.
This AudioNautes edition is also cut for playback at 45 RPM. The higher rotational speed provides more groove length for each second of music. With careful mastering and cutting, this can provide additional room for dynamics, fine detail and accurately reproduced transients.
Traditional vinyl manufacturing uses several intermediate electroplating generations before the final stamper used to press the record is produced. The One-Step process reduces the number of these intermediate stages.
This means fewer transfer stages between the lacquer and the finished record. The aim is to preserve as much information from the original lacquer cut as possible while reducing opportunities for microscopic losses during production. Explore our complete collection of One-Step LP vinyl records.
For this edition, AudioNautes deliberately changed the distribution of the tracks compared with the original LP sequence. Each playable side therefore contains only two or three tracks. As a result, the second record is single-sided: Side D is blank.
