Correct cartridge alignment is essential for accurate tracking and consistent playback across the entire side of a record. The Ortofon Premium Alignment Tool is a larger and sturdier alignment protractor that provides additional stability while making adjustments. Its two-point Baerwald geometry enables precise positioning of the stylus, cantilever and cartridge. This premium version is also 75% more rigid than Ortofon’s standard alignment tool.

Place the protractor over the turntable spindle and initially position the cartridge near the centre of the headshell slots. Carefully lower the stylus onto the first null point and check that the cantilever is parallel to the reference lines. Repeat this at the second null point. Move or rotate the cartridge in small increments until the cantilever is correctly aligned at both points. Handle the stylus with extreme care and check the tracking force and anti-skating setting afterwards in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
