Michell Engineering Record Clamp
The Michell Record Clamp is a clamp that holds records firmly against the platter. It prevents record slippage and presses uneven records against the platter. The Michell Record Clamp is suitable for any turntable, including those with a relatively short center spindle, such as those from the Rega.
A record clamp doesn't seem really necessary. Unfortunately, many records aren't perfectly flat. And because a record isn't flat, unwanted resonance can occur between the platter and the record, causing the record to slip on the platter.
Thanks to the Michell Record Clamp, your record and platter become virtually one. The record appears to have a much higher mass, which reduces its resonance frequency. Unwanted resonances can be effectively dissipated through the record to the platter.
Michell has deliberately kept the Record Clamp's weight low. The material it's made of,
Delrin , has the properties of metal but the low mass of plastic. This keeps the load on your sensitive and precise platter bearing within limits.
Using a record clamp is a valuable upgrade to any turntable.
Using the Michell Record Clamp is simple. Place the felt ring over the turntable's spindle. Then place the record on the platter, and then the clamp on the spindle. Gently press the black part of the clamp against the record and tighten the screw. The Record Clamp will now automatically hold the record firmly against the platter.
