“Do not attempt to adjust your radio.” With this urgent directive, Parliament kicks off their legendary album “Mothership Connection” – an ecstatic journey and cosmic trip through universes full of galactic grooves, cheerful vibes, cheeky humor and street-wise slang. “Mothership Connection” is almost 39 minutes of the best, most sweat-inducing and enthusiastic funk songs ever written – all recorded by a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame all-star band whose members must have absorbed funk with their mother's milk: bandleader, singer and producer George Clinton together with Bootsy Collins (bass), Bernie Worrell (Talking Heads), Fred Wesley (James Brown), Maceo Parker, Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker and many more. “Mothership Connection” was the first Parliament album to go gold and later platinum. The Library of Congress added the album to the National Recording Registry in 2011, stating that it had “had an enormous influence on jazz, rock and dance music.” Rolling Stone included the concept album in its list of the 400 greatest albums of all time, and in 2005 it was finally honored in the famous book “1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.”

The music collective's fourth album was recorded between March and October 1975 at United Sound in Detroit, Michigan, and Hollywood Sound in California, USA, and released on Casablanca Records later that year. The creativity, chemistry and compositional power under the direction of George Clinton erupted in a crazy mix of funky sounds, psychedelic soul, rule-breaking rock, science fiction fantasy and Afrofuturism. “Mothership Connection” captivates the listener from start to finish: the exhilarating adventure begins with the truly extraterrestrial cover artwork, which shows Clinton sitting with his legs stretched out, sunglasses and knee-high boots in a glowing spaceship sailing through the Milky Way. He designed the concept album based on the idea that few people can imagine Black people in space – so he put them there. Although the collective enjoyed complete musical freedom in their search for “the bomb,” each track comes with laser-focused precision, innovative sharpness, and seething grooves that seem to expand endlessly. Their hit “Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker)” sold over a million copies. With their quote from the spiritual “Swing Down Sweet Chariot,” Parliament also created one of the most sampled tracks in history.

Lovingly mastered from the original tapes at MoFi's California studio and pressed on 180-gram vinyl (45 RPM), this strictly numbered double LP presents this funk monster in audiophile quality for the first time: Brilliant brass sections, crisp snare drums, meaty handclaps – the entire range of the original recording now comes into its own! On this pressing, the dynamics, hooks, deep bass lines, fat keyboard sounds and hip energy of “Mothership Connection” virtually explode. Naturally, both records are packaged in a deluxe gatefold sleeve from Stoughton Printing, complete with the iconic cover artwork.
