Michael Jackson – Dangerous is presented in this premium numbered edition as an 180g vinyl double LP from Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab. The complete album is spread across four sides and plays at 33⅓ RPM. Careful mastering from the original masters, premium pressing quality and deluxe gatefold packaging make this an outstanding release for Michael Jackson collectors and audiophile vinyl enthusiasts.
This MFSL edition, catalogue number MFSL 2-571, was pressed at Fidelity Record Pressing in California and is housed in a high-quality Stoughton gatefold jacket. The numbered presentation combines the iconic music and artwork of Dangerous with meticulous audiophile production.
Originally released in 1991, Dangerous is Michael Jackson’s eighth studio album. It combines pop and R&B with new jack swing, funk, rock, gospel and modern electronic production techniques. The result is a powerful and varied album filled with deep bass lines, layered percussion, large choir arrangements and expansive studio production.
Well-known tracks such as Black or White, Remember the Time, In the Closet, Jam, Heal the World and Who Is It demonstrate the album’s broad musical character. Intimate vocal passages alternate with forceful rhythms, rock guitars and large-scale arrangements.
Mobile Fidelity used the original available master sources for this release. The precise source differs from track to track. Most of the album originates from analogue masters, while several songs were originally recorded on a digital 48kHz/16-bit master system.
MFSL transferred the masters to DSD 256 before routing the signal through an analogue console to the cutting lathe. This transparent description of the mastering chain confirms that this is not an entirely analogue release, but a carefully produced audiophile pressing that follows the original source of each recording as accurately as possible.
The mastering focuses on the clarity and presence of Michael Jackson’s voice, precise separation between the numerous instruments and sound effects, controlled low frequencies and wide dynamic range. The complex productions of tracks such as Jam, Who Is It and Dangerous particularly benefit from being spread across two records.
The term 180g vinyl means that each record weighs approximately 180 grams. This heavier vinyl is more rigid and dimensionally stable than many lightweight standard pressings. It sits securely on the turntable platter and is generally less susceptible to warping.
Vinyl weight alone does not determine sound quality. The mastering, lacquer cutting, materials and pressing quality are at least as important. This release combines heavyweight vinyl with specialised MFSL mastering and a pressing manufactured by Fidelity Record Pressing.
