“Bad,” the seventh studio album by American musician Michael Jackson, was released by Epic Records in August 1987 and was Jackson’s third and final album produced by Quincy Jones. Arriving five years after “Thriller,” its successor was released unusually late, having been postponed several times. “Bad” reached the top of the album charts in more than 20 countries, has sold more than 35 million copies worldwide to date, and achieved platinum status a total of eleven times! In the United States, seven of the album’s eleven tracks were released as singles, while no fewer than nine were issued as singles in the United Kingdom and Germany.

In 1984, several months after the “Victory” tour with his brothers, Jackson began recording various demos, a process that occupied him until the end of 1985. Work on the album itself began in November 1986, with recording sessions taking place between January 5, 1987 and July 9, 1987 at Westlake Audio Studios. A special wooden stage was built for Jackson there, allowing him to dance while recording. Jackson wrote approximately sixty songs for his new album. He recorded around thirty of them and originally intended to release them all as a triple-CD set. Quincy Jones, however, advocated reducing “Bad” to a ten-track LP.

When the album was released, “Leave Me Alone” appeared as an additional eleventh track exclusively on the CD edition. It was later released as a single and is also included on this MFSL vinyl reissue. The title track, “Bad,” was originally intended to be a duet with Prince. Prince declined, however, as he believed the song would become a hit without him. Other artists considered for appearances on the album included Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Barbra Streisand, but none of these collaborations ultimately materialised. With “Dirty Diana,” Jackson once again recorded a successful rock song, featuring a guitar solo by Steve Stevens. Siedah Garrett (“I Just Can’t Stop Loving You”) and Stevie Wonder (“Just Good Friends”) contributed vocals.

Mobile Fidelity’s numbered double LP, strictly limited to just 6,000 copies, was specially remastered for this edition at the MoFi studio in California. It was pressed by Fidelity Record Pressing using the sonically superior UltraDisc One-Step process on 180-gram vinyl at 45 RPM.

The luxurious box set features faithfully reproduced graphics along with the iconic original cover artwork. Inside are the two records housed in foil-stamped sleeves and original MFSL Master Sleeves. An expansive soundstage, pinpoint detail reproduction, an exceptionally black background and the full dynamic range across the entire frequency spectrum distinguish this MoFi UltraDisc One-Step edition of “Bad.”
