Although Carlisle Floyd's operas are among the most frequently performed by American composers, some of his works have remained unavailable commercially. His opera Wuthering Heights, based on Emily Brontë's world-famous novel , premiered in Santa Fe in 1958, but was never recorded for commercial release until 2015, when the first recording of this long-neglected masterpiece was made.
With the composer himself as artistic advisor, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Joseph Mechavich, and the singers of the Florentine Opera Company recorded Wuthering Heights in January 2015. Recording and mastering were handled by the renowned Soundmirror team, whose outstanding orchestral, solo, operatic, and chamber music recordings have garnered over 70 Grammy nominations and awards. Just in time for Carlisle Floyd's 90th birthday in June 2016, Reference Recordings released this superb recording, making Wuthering Heights finally available on CD for the first time.
The double hybrid multi-channel SACD set also includes the complete libretto of the opera as a booklet.
