Grado Labs Gold4 Moving Iron cartridge with elliptical diamond stylus, 4 mV output and refined musical sound. Available in ½-inch Standard Mount and P-Mount/T4P. Read more.
The Grado Labs Gold4 represents the highest level of performance within Grado's established Prestige Series. This high-output Moving Iron cartridge is designed for vinyl listeners seeking increased refinement, control and detail without the demanding gain requirements associated with many low-output Moving Coil cartridges.
Gold4 combines Grado's Moving Iron generator with a 4 mV output, bonded elliptical diamond stylus mounted on an aluminium cantilever, an internal signal path made from ultra-high-purity 5N OCC copper, cryogenic treatment and internal damping.
The Grado Gold4 is available in both ½-inch Standard Mount and P-Mount/T4P versions. Both share the same core cartridge philosophy and performance concept, but use distinctly different mounting systems.
If your current cartridge is attached to the headshell with two screws, you will normally require the Standard Mount version. If the cartridge slides directly into the end of the tonearm, it will generally use a P-Mount/T4P connection.
Grado uses its proprietary Moving Iron principle, based on Joseph Grado's Flux-Bridger concept. The coil structure remains stationary while moving mass is kept low, allowing the generator to translate very small stylus movements into a stable and responsive electrical signal.
With approximately 4 mV output, Gold4 is compatible with a wide range of phono stages designed for conventional high-output cartridges. A dedicated low-output MC step-up transformer or very high MC gain is normally unnecessary.
Gold4 features a bonded elliptical diamond stylus mounted on an aluminium cantilever. The elliptical profile provides effective groove contact and reliable tracking while helping reveal fine musical information and a stable stereo image.
Gold4 sits at the top of the Grado Prestige Series and is intended for listeners looking for the most refined performance within this cartridge family.
Its presentation combines clarity and control with a smooth, composed top end. Midrange information has natural presence and texture, while bass is reproduced with definition and authority. Complex recordings retain separation and coherence, allowing individual instruments and musical layers to remain easy to follow.
The internal signal path uses ultra-high-purity 5N OCC copper. Each cartridge also receives cryogenic treatment and internal damping intended to reduce unwanted resonance and maintain signal integrity.
The Gold4 stylus assembly is user replaceable, so a worn diamond can be replaced without purchasing an entirely new cartridge. Current Prestige Series styli are also interchangeable, providing additional flexibility for long-term ownership.
Grado Labs is a family-owned American audio manufacturer based in Brooklyn, New York. Founded in 1953 by Joseph Grado and his brother John, the company has a long history in the development of phono cartridges and headphones.
