In 1958, conductor Charles Munch recorded these two works with the Boston Symphony Orchestra for RCA. Claude Debussy was fascinated by the sea throughout his life, spending his childhood there and visiting the coast often as an adult. He wrote La Mer in Paris around 1904/05, creating a chimera of fantastic colours, unpredictable winds and strange voices. Jacques Ibert's Port Of Call was also written after a trip to the Mediterranean and was inspired by the musical styles found there. The hybrid SACD includes both stereo and multichannel versions and has been remastered from the original tapes by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound.
