Tommy was originally released in May 1969 and helped establish The Who as an internationally successful rock band. Written primarily by guitarist and composer Pete Townshend, the concept album tells the surreal story of Tommy, a boy who becomes isolated from the outside world after a traumatic childhood experience and eventually develops into a spiritual and cultural phenomenon.
