The Who - My Generation [Mono] is the explosive debut album by The Who, presented here as a premium 180g double LP cut at 45 RPM by Analogue Productions. This audiophile reissue was mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering from the original analogue master tapes.
The two records were pressed at Quality Record Pressings and are housed in a luxurious, matte-finished Stoughton Printing tip-on gatefold jacket. Spreading the album across four sides at 45 RPM gives the grooves more room and allows the energy of the original mono recording to be reproduced with exceptional power, immediacy and detail.
My Generation was originally released in 1965 and immediately established the international reputation of The Who. Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle and Keith Moon combine British rhythm and blues, mod rock, powerful guitar work and extraordinary rhythmic energy.
The album includes classics such as My Generation, The Kids Are Alright, A Legal Matter and Out In The Street. The closing instrumental The Ox also demonstrates the explosive interplay between John Entwistle’s bass, Keith Moon’s drums and Pete Townshend’s guitar.
This edition presents the album in its original mono mix. Instead of being separated across left and right stereo channels, the instruments and vocals form one powerful and cohesive sound image. This closely reflects the way the album was produced and originally heard in 1965.
Chris Bellman mastered this release at Bernie Grundman Mastering directly from the original analogue master tapes. The records were subsequently manufactured at Quality Record Pressings, a pressing plant recognised for its attention to quiet vinyl surfaces, accurate centring and consistent manufacturing quality.
A 180-gram record is heavier and more rigid than many standard vinyl pressings. Its additional weight makes the record less susceptible to warping and allows it to sit securely on the turntable platter. Weight alone does not determine sound quality, however. The source, mastering, lacquer cutting and pressing quality remain the most important factors.
This edition combines heavyweight vinyl with premium mastering and a playback speed of 45 RPM. A carefully cut 45 RPM record provides more groove length for each second of music, helping fast transients, dynamic drum attacks and high frequencies to be captured with impressive precision.
