The SilentPower iPower X is an external power supply for compatible DACs, streamers, phono preamplifiers and other devices with a DC power input. Also known as the iFi iPower X, it is designed to reduce electrical power supply noise. You choose a version with a fixed output voltage of 5, 9, 12 or 15 volts. The correct version depends on your device’s voltage, current requirements, connector size and polarity. The guide below explains how to check these before ordering.

Check your device’s power input, its manual or the output specifications on the original adapter. Choose the specified voltage. Each iPower X version has a fixed output voltage that cannot be switched.

Please note: this table only covers voltage and current. Connector size and polarity must also match. The iPower X supplies direct current (DC) and cannot replace an adapter that supplies alternating current (AC) to your device.
Yes. With a suitable regulated power supply, the available current may exceed the device’s requirements. The device draws only the current it needs. The voltage must still match the specified value.
For example, a device requiring 12 V DC and 1 A can use the 12 V / 2 A version if the connector and polarity also match. This version is insufficient for a device requiring 12 V and 3 A. In that case, choose a power supply with adequate current capacity.
Round DC barrel connectors have two specified measurements: the outer diameter and the inner diameter. A 5.5 x 2.1 mm connector therefore has an outer diameter of 5.5 mm and an inner diameter of 2.1 mm.
SilentPower lists the following connection sizes for the iPower X: 3.5 x 1.35 mm, 4.0 x 1.7 mm, 4.8 x 1.7 mm, 5.5 x 2.1 mm and 5.5 x 2.5 mm. Check which size your device requires and whether the necessary adapter is available.
An approximate fit is not enough. For example, 5.5 x 2.1 mm and 5.5 x 2.5 mm are different sizes. Also check the required insertion length and whether the power socket is recessed.
Polarity determines whether the centre contact is positive or negative. Check the polarity symbol on your device or original adapter and compare it with the power supply and the adapter being used.
The white reverse-polarity adapter listed by SilentPower for this model changes the polarity. Use it only if your device requires it. A reverse-polarity adapter does not change the output voltage.
Does your device have a USB power input? Check its power requirements as well as the connector type. A USB-C connector that fits does not automatically make the power supply compatible. Devices requiring USB Power Delivery or another charging protocol may have additional requirements.
Before use, have the required version and adapter checked. Do not connect a device with a 5 V USB power input to the 9, 12 or 15 V version using a simple connector adapter.
The iPower X combines active noise cancellation with passive filtering to reduce unwanted electrical interference in the power supply. This makes it a potential upgrade over a compatible standard adapter.
Whether it produces an audible difference depends on factors including the original adapter, the connected device’s internal power circuitry and the rest of your system.
