The Volumio Rivo is designed for music enthusiasts who already use a high-quality external DAC. Unlike a conventional network player, Rivo does not contain a built-in digital-to-analogue converter. Instead, it concentrates on delivering streamed music to your DAC through the cleanest possible digital signal path. USB, coaxial S/PDIF and balanced AES/EBU outputs make it easy to integrate Rivo into a high-performance digital audio system.

Volumio has paid particular attention to the Rivo's digital signal path. Its coaxial S/PDIF and AES/EBU outputs feature galvanic isolation using 1:1 transformers, helping to minimise unwanted electrical interference between the streamer and the connected DAC.
A dedicated low-noise filtered USB 2.0 connection is provided for an external USB DAC. Via USB, Rivo supports high-resolution audio up to PCM 768 kHz/32-bit and DSD256, depending on the capabilities of the connected DAC.

The Volumio Rivo is particularly suitable for systems that already include a high-quality external DAC. Connect Rivo via USB, coaxial S/PDIF or AES/EBU and allow your DAC to perform the digital-to-analogue conversion. USB is the preferred connection when the highest supported sample rates are required, while AES/EBU and coaxial S/PDIF provide the advantage of galvanic isolation.
Please note: Rivo has no analogue audio outputs. An external DAC or amplifier with a suitable digital input is therefore required.
