On Here's To My Lady, Phil Woods combines his warm, expressive alto saxophone sound with Tommy Flanagan's elegant piano playing. Bassist George Mraz and drummer Kenny Washington complete a quartet built around swing, fluidity and finely judged interaction. Part of the Chesky Original Masters series, this reissue is presented as a 180g One-Step LP that reveals the subtle character of Woods' alto saxophone and clarinet playing.

Originally released in 1989, the album was an early landmark in the Chesky Records catalogue. Woods and the Tommy Flanagan Trio combine modern jazz compositions with personal tributes to musicians including Johnny Hodges and Charlie Parker. Lyrical ballads, energetic swing and subtle ensemble interplay flow naturally throughout the programme. In addition to his familiar alto saxophone, Woods can also be heard playing clarinet on several selections.
A One-Step pressing uses a shortened electroplating process. The usual intermediate father and mother stages are bypassed, with the lacquer used to produce the pressing stamper directly. This reduces the number of copying generations between the recording source and the finished record. The aim is to preserve fine detail, dynamic expression and spatial information as faithfully as possible. The 180g vinyl also provides a substantial and stable physical carrier.
