In 2002, it was impossible to escape this one gloriously purring voice on the radio. A young woman from New York was dominating the charts with her blend of jazz and pop, and there were even people who claimed you could sing along to the phone book and still be great. When the press revealed that Norah Jones was the illegitimate daughter of Indian sitar maestro Ravi Shankar, the marketing miracle was complete and 'Come Away with Me' won six Grammy Awards, including Best Album.
Her label, Blue Note, had created a new crowd-pleaser and then unfortunately made the big mistake of wanting to offer audiophile customers a hybrid SACD shortly after the first release.
In this case, however, it is a multi-channel hybrid SACD remastered from the original data by Kevin Gray. The fact that you are holding the new version in your hands is also indicated by the imprint on the back of the CD sleeve. The result is a warmer, more natural sound that seems less jumpy than the first release, but allows you to delve much deeper into the music.
