These recordings were made in just five hours with the National Symphonic Winds, conducted by Lowell Graham, in the historic Hampton University Concert Hall (Hampton Roads, Virginia). Musicians from the United States' finest military bands and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra perform a vibrant selection of film scores and musical numbers—from John Williams' Olympic Fanfare (composed for the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles) to excerpts from Mary Poppins and West Side Story.
David Wilson's acclaimed recordings are pure joy for audiophiles. The founder of the world's most exclusive loudspeaker manufacturer began recording musicians and music he appreciated in 1977. Always acoustic, always unamplified. For Center Stage, he used minimal Sennheiser microphone technology and the Wilson Ultramaster, a heavily modified Studer tape recorder with custom-developed electronics by John Curl. Wilson's goal was to get as close as possible to the sound and music he recorded. In the years leading up to 1995, he recorded 33 tracks (27 of which were released), reflecting Wilson's own preferred listening style. The remastering for Analogue Productions' hybrid SACD was done by Kevin Gray.
