Brain Salad Surgery is one of Emerson, Lake & Palmer's most ambitious recordings. The 1973 progressive-rock album combines Keith Emerson's keyboards and synthesisers, Greg Lake's vocals and guitar work and Carl Palmer's powerful percussion with complex compositions and dramatic dynamic contrasts. For this numbered Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab edition, the album was mastered at MoFi's California studio by Neal Harris with assistance from Krieg Wunderlich.

Brain Salad Surgery was Emerson, Lake & Palmer's fourth studio album and became one of the defining records of progressive rock. The trio embraced innovative studio techniques and electronic instruments. Jerusalem features the then-cutting-edge polyphonic synthesiser, while Carl Palmer experimented with proto-electronic drums during Toccata.
The centrepiece is the nearly thirty-minute Karn Evil 9, divided into three impressions. The more intimate Still….You Turn Me On provides an effective contrast and demonstrates the remarkable musical range of the trio.
A Hybrid SACD contains two separate playback layers. The high-resolution SACD layer uses DSD audio and requires a compatible SACD player. The disc also includes a conventional CD layer that can be played on a standard CD player, allowing you to enjoy the same physical release even without an SACD player.
