The DS Audio SC-001 Sonic Cleaning Brush is a premium record cleaning brush that uses sonic vibration to help loosen fine dust from vinyl grooves. Unlike a conventional record brush that mainly moves across the record surface, the SC-001 vibrates its bristles at approximately 11,000 vibrations per minute (183 Hz).
Designed for convenient everyday record care, the SC-001 provides a fast way to prepare a record before playback without requiring a complete wet-cleaning cycle. It is used dry and combines mechanical dust removal with a carefully engineered approach to reducing static charge.
At the heart of the DS Audio SC-001 is its vibrating brush head. The bristles move approximately 11,000 times per minute, helping to loosen fine particles located in and around the record groove.
During development, DS Audio quantitatively evaluated several brush materials for their dust-removal performance. The selected material was chosen specifically for use with the vibrating cleaning mechanism.
Static electricity can cause a clean record to attract dust again. The SC-001 therefore combines low-charging brush fibres with conductive anti-static fibres positioned behind the main brush head.
A metal grounding bar is also located on the rear of the unit. Keeping a finger in contact with this bar during cleaning helps discharge static electricity from the record.
Start the turntable, gently place the SC-001 on the rotating record and hold down the power button. DS Audio recommends cleaning for approximately five seconds per record side.
The SC-001 is powered by two AAA batteries. According to DS Audio, one set provides enough power for approximately 3,000 record sides when used for around five seconds per side. An integrated LED indicates the remaining battery status.
The brush head is replaceable and is designed to provide years of service under normal use. Dust collected by the brush can be removed with the supplied maintenance brush.
Alcohol, solvents and record cleaning fluids should not be applied to the brush head. The SC-001 is designed for dry record cleaning.
