“Déjà Vu” marks the debut of Crosby, Stills & Nash as a quartet. With new member Neil Young, the album reached number 1 on the Billboard 200 shortly after its release in March 1970. With more than 7 million copies sold, the trio had now become a true “supergroup”. Stephen Stills described the recording process of “Déjà Vu”, now regarded as one of the band’s masterpieces, as “pulling teeth”: song after song failed to make the album, and even the title track, written by David Crosby and much loved by fans, was ultimately rejected as a single.
This, however, did nothing to diminish the album’s success. With singles such as “Teach Your Children”, “Our House”, “Carry On” and the cover version of Joni Mitchell’s “Woodstock”, “Déjà Vu” features truly timeless hits.
