Although Crosby, Stills & Nash had already been together for well over a decade by the time “Daylight Again” was released in 1982, it was only their third studio album to contain entirely new material. For the recordings, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash considered Art Garfunkel and Timothy B. Schmit of the Eagles as singers, as David Crosby, who was heavily addicted to drugs at the time, was barely able to work. Despite his vocal limitations, Crosby was involved in the studio sessions, although the vocal solo parts were entrusted to the Eagles singer and CSN keyboardist Mark Finnigan. Garfunkel contributed to the title track.
Despite the difficult circumstances, “Daylight Again” became a platinum-selling album, even though only one song, the lyrically moving “Delta”, was written by Crosby. Among the album’s most notable tracks are Graham Nash’s “Wasted On The Way” and “Southern Cross”, composed by Michael and Richard Curtis together with Stephen Stills. Both songs were released as singles and later became a regular part of the band’s repertoire, both on compilations and in live performances.
